The objective of the Tiny Forests Together program is to empower passionate communities to bring publicly accessible Tiny Forests into their neighbourhoods, by bridging the gap between technical expertise and community involvement.

As part of the Pilot Phase of our program, we will be planting at least two Tiny Forests in 2025 in collaboration with local community groups. If the program is successful, we will be continuing the program into 2026.

We are inviting passionate, driven community groups to submit applications for Tiny Forest projects in 2025 and 2026. The roles and responsibility of the program are defined under the acronym:

Forêt Capitale Forest will provide:

P – Project management (Guidance through every step)

L – Links to stakeholders (Support engaging key partners)

A – Assistance with funding (Helping secure resources)

N – Native trees and plants (Site-specific for forest resilience)

T – Training and industry expertise (Access to resources and expert guidance)

Community Groups will provide:

T – Team to plan and plant (Community-led with expert support)

I – In-kind or financial support Shared investment for long-term success)

N – Neighbourhood knowledge (You bring the local insight!)

Y – Yearly maintenance (ongoing care for 3 years following planting for a thriving Tiny Forest)

Before You Apply

  • Community Group Requirements

Community groups can be Community or Neighbourhood Associations, Non-Profit Organizations, or Volunteer Groups.

We are looking for the following commitments from community groups:

  • Project Requirements and Preferences

The only requirement for the project is that the planting must be on publicly accessible land within the National Capital Region. If we receive a number of applications that exceed our capacity to support, we may choose to prioritize Community Groups who:

    • Wish to plant a Tiny Forest in a neighbourhood with low canopy cover
    • Have existing access to land / have already obtained necessary permissions to plant
    • Demonstrate an existing relationship with the landowner
    • Have local City Councilor engagement and/or support for the project
    • demonstrate that the project fills a community need (ie. food security, educational component, etc.)
  • Steps to Apply
    1. Determine your T.I.N.Y. With your community group, identify your team leads, level of support you have available, any land or target areas you may have in mind, and ensure you are committed to maintenance.
    2. Submit the application form. We will review your application and a member of our team will be in touch with you to discuss it further. Preferred Deadline (2025 Plantings): May 6th, 2025; Preferred Deadline (2026 Plantings: October 31st, 2025
    3. Project kick-off meeting. We will meet to discuss the details of your project and make sure it meets our requirements and that you have every you need to get started.
    4. Sign an agreement. Once we have discussed the details and your project is approved, we will sign a simple agreement acknowledging the roles and responsibilities we’ve discussed.
