From tree planting and care, to nursery work and community events, volunteers play a key role in helping us expand urban forests across the National Capital Region. With volunteers’ help, we can strive to achieve our ambitious afforestation goals!
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
Volunteer on a casual basis
Casual volunteers are added to our Volunteer Mailing List and receive monthly updates with upcoming volunteer opportunities, community events, the latest FCF news, and quarterly newsletters.
You can choose which events you’d like to attend and register for what fits your schedule – no ongoing commitment required.
Become a Core Volunteer
Looking to get more involved?
Join our Core Volunteer mailing list to receive regular updates (as often as weekly) with opportunities that go beyond public events.
- HOW IT WORKS
Each week, we share a list of available opportunities with Core Volunteers, and you can express interest in any task that fits your availability. A staff member will then follow up with details and next steps.
These opportunities can include:
- Tree care and site maintenance
- Nursery support (potting, organizing, plant care)
- Independent or small-group tasks
- Targeted calls for support at specific sites
- Additional support tasks as needed (e.g. fundraising, marketing, communications, research, etc.)
Core opportunities are typically more hands-on and may involve working more closely with our team or taking on independent tasks. There’s no fixed schedule, just ongoing opportunities to get more deeply involved.

Whether you’re a corporate group, community organization, school, or team looking for a volunteer day, FCF offers coordinated group volunteering experiences.
- HOW IT WORKS
By registering through this form, your group will be signing up to join a scheduled FCF event — this may include tree planting or tree care activities at our sites across the National Capital Region. These are public events that your group can participate in together. An FCF team member will be in touch to help coordinate a volunteer opportunity that works for your group.
Group volunteering is free, though donations are encouraged to help support our programming and expand our impact.
