Winter Preparations for our 2023 planting season!

In an attempt to stay ahead of our local bunny pruning team seen making some heading cuts on some draping limbs of a pear tree, we have started to take cuttings from our native shrubs for propagation and planting in the 2023 season.

Cutting propagation technique is when we cut a stem or branch from a shrub and place that in in soil to eventually take root and grow into a new shrub.

The process of growing new stock from cuttings is preferable as the new plants are already accustomed to the local environment leading to a more resilient new forest.

Help us continue to propagate new urban forest stock to create new resilient urban forests that are adapted to Ottawa’s climate.
