Mādahòkì Farm

About:

This forest resides on the traditional and un-ceded territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin. Located at the Mādahòkì Farm in the NCC Greenbelt with the mission of sharing the land, stories and food from an Indigenous perspective. This location will be planted through a multi-phase approach, with the first planting taking place in spring 2025. This forest was planted to increase shade cover to provide relief from the heat during large events held at Mādahòkì Farm, including the Tagwàgi (Autumn) Festival, Pibòn (Winter) Festival, Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival and other special events. A mix of native and edible trees, shrubs, and forbs have been planted for their on-site chef to incorporate into prepared dishes. The forest was planted with a variety of native broadleaf and conifer species that make up the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence forest type.
